The FASRI Parents' Association organizes a Playdate during the summer to help new students and parents get to know the community in a relaxed and fun setting.
Annual FASRI Community Picnic
September
Colt State Park, Bristol RI, Site # TBA
The Annual FASRI Community Picnic is a wonderful way to spend some time with and get to know other families and FASRI faculty and staff in a fun and relaxed setting. The event is potluck style, meaning that everyone brings something to share with the group.
Giving Week
October
Tuition provides the income for FASRI’s basic program and the everyday running of the school, including salaries, educational supplies, utilities, and maintenance of the building. Your generosity allows us to do more for our students, through enrichment programs, technology in the classroom, professional development, and innovative programs such as co-teaching. Your support also means we are able to put funds aside to invest in much-needed capital improvements. Thank you.
OPEN HOUSE
November
The first Saturday of the month we host our annual Open House. This event is open to the public and allows families to come visit our building, our classrooms, and meet our faculty, staff, and current families. If someone you know is interested in learning more about our school, this is the perfect event for them to attend.
Marché de Noël:
December
A fun family event with an international twist.
Our Marché de Noël is a tradition at the French American School and over the years parent volunteers have come together to create a fun family event for FASRI and members of the wider community. Highlights have included:
• upcycled vintage ornaments to benefit Hasbro Children's Hospital
• handknit scarves & mittens
• artisan-made fine crystal jewelry
• delectable French macarons
• face painting
• a performance by the FASRI chorus, led by Music Teacher Tom Keohane.
Mardi Gras
February
Students look forward to Mardi Gras at FASRI every year. Virginie Gherardi, Director of Afterschool, organizes this yearly fête with delicious food, craft activities, and games galore. There is a costume contest, that always sees a great array of entries, music and fun for all ages.
Francophonie
March
The French language is spoken by millions of people across five continents worldwide. Each March, FASRI along with other local French cultural and educational organizations participates in the month of Francophonie, an international celebration that promotes connections between the different nations and cultures that share a common language.
In the past, our school has attended an annual flag-raising ceremony at the Rhode Island State House where a group of our students sing in French. We have also hosted special French language events during the month of March. As one of our Middle School teachers noted, "As French speakers, our students are already part of the linguistic diversity of La Francophonie. Each culture shapes the language in a unique way. The French language is something that belongs to our students and they will each use it in their own way."
Rendez-vous
April
The Rendez-vous Gala is known for being an especially fun fundraising event! Every year, our community comes together to raise essential funds for our unique international program.
In past years, the evening has included a cocktail hour with wine tasting, a sit-down dinner, a silent auction, a live auction including artwork created by our students with art teacher Eleanor Ecorcheville's guidance, a raffle, entertainment, desserts, and dancing. Parents, teachers, sponsors, and community businesses have all been involved.
Our annual fundraiser provides vital support for our general budget. In years past, the Rendez-vous event has netted over $75,000 for the support of the school mission. FASRI is deeply grateful to our volunteers, our generous auction donors, sponsors and bidders who made the evening possible and our spirited revelers for attending the event.
