Learning and the brain
Over the past ten years, neuroscience and research have developed new understandings of the brain and the mechanisms of learning. These developments affect the practices of educators and the field of education as a whole. From reading to languages, from dyslexia to behavior and cognition, educators are utilizing this new research to create revolutionary tools and approaches to stimulate learning, develop the use of memory and generate forms of assessment that better evaluate today’s student: the 21st Century learner.
Teachers were not taught about the brain in the past. Psychology and pedagogy were the past focus at universities. Although they will remain a part of the teacher tool kit, educators now cannot do without knowledge of basic neuroscience. FASRI is committed to training our faculty in linkages among the brain, mind and education. We will continue to develop those skills over the years to come.
