Middle School education is designed to be genreal and broad in such a way that students are granted access to a wide range of knowledge and priciples that constitute and further prepare them for High School. Students continue to build upon what they learned at the elementary level and are introduced to more complex thought that modifies and expandes upon their bases. Teaching is organised in two thematic cycles:
- The Adaptation Cycle (Grade 6) that ferments fundamental knowledge from Elementary School and intitates students to disciplines and methods that will be expanded upon in Middlle School.
- The Central Cycle (Grade 7 & 8) where students deepen and enlarge their knowledge aase and savoir faire and prepare for High School academic standards.
Middle School students are approaching the age of legal adulthood and are about to become active participants in their futures and their worlds, making middle school the last formative experience. Therefore, at the end of middle school, students must be capable of expressing and forming their own judgments and opinions. The following lists the fundamental objectives to be reached by the end of middle school:
- Students master principal forms of speech and rhetoric;
- Students have the means necessary to form their own opinions and to express themselves coherently and eloquently;
- Students understand and exhibit fundamental knowledge of a culture that is necessary for them to construct their identity (both personal and social)
- Students are allowed to enrich their imagination and are able to broach symbolic forms of knowledge
- In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, an in depth study of narration drives at integrating description, dialogue, and approaches to explanation that prepare all students for the study of argumentation.
The curriculum at the middle school level becomes much more complex and detailed in all subjects to meet students' educational needs and to provide them with the best of academic standards for high school and beyond. Please download the curriculum at the link above.
